The United States of America - usually referred to as the U.S., the USA or just America, is a large federal republic of 50 states in central and northwest America. It is about half the size of Russia and about the same size as China at 9.83 sq km, and has the third largest population after India and China at around 305 million.
It has just about every kind of climate and type of settlement - it has densely populated cities such as New York and Chicago, and a range of beautiful scenery - long coasts, large uninhabited wilderness areas both forests and deserts, and many natural wonders.
Visits to cities such as New York and Washington are always popular not only for the tourist sights but also for the rich cultural activities on offer - such as the excellent Museums based around the Smithsonian in Washington, the quality Art Galleries and exhibitions-not to mention the night life and the all you can eat breakfasts.
